"Do not be afraid, you have found favor with God"

The angel said to [Mary], "Do not be afraid, you have found favor with God.  You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.  The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever."
--Luke 1:30-33
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
Jesus is identified by many names stated or implied in the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). Notice how Jesus is identified in just this one passage:  child, son, Jesus, great, Son  of the Most High, King, son of David, and leader of Israel (Jacob).  Jesus exhausts all descriptions, and yet chose to be limited to imperfect descriptions by becoming human.  But this flood of names and descriptions helps us find Jesus a Savior in every trial and blessing of life.  Jesus is Savior for all seasons.

MY PRAYER
Holy and Almighty Father, I thank you for all the ways Jesus is described and all the names he is given. They help me see the breadth of his nature and the depth of his character. Please bless me so I may always find a dimension of Jesus' ministry or a name or description of Jesus to help sustain me, when I walk through the shadows of doubt caused by the evil one.  Help me, O Father, to see Jesus and not my preoccupations and biases so that when he comes again, I will know him, and he me.  Through the glorious name of the Savior I pray.  Amen.
No More Hiding
Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
Genesis 3:9

After Adam and Eve fell into sin, they heard the sound of the Lord walking in the garden. What did they do? They hid themselves from His presence.
There is something God wants us to learn here about sin-consciousness: It makes us hide from Him when He actually wants to hang out with us. It makes us feel like we’ve fallen off His radar. It makes us feel afraid of Him when the safest and most comforting place in the world is in His presence.

Adam was sin-conscious. He said to God, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself” (Genesis 3:10). Now, this nakedness was not just physical. Adam saw himself unworthy of God. He was aware of his sin. He never had this awareness before. Prior to his act of disobedience, when God came into the garden, he would hang out with God without any sense of uncleanness. Then, he became conscious of his sin and ran away from God’s presence.

Beloved, God wants to hang out with you. But you can’t have an intimate relationship with Him when you are sin-conscious and feeling unworthy in His presence. The good news is that Jesus’ blood has removed all your sins and made you righteous. And God is so pleased with His Son’s sacrifice that He will by no means remember your sins (Hebrews 10:17). So come out of your hiding place and hang out boldly with God. It’s in His presence that you are empowered, refreshed and recharged. It’s in His presence that you receive from Him!

Great Things Beyond our Understanding

God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,' and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.'
--Job 37:5-6
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
Isn't that a beautiful phrase!  "God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding."  Rather than spending a lot of time talking or thinking about how marvelous God is, let's praise him in prayer.

MY PRAYER
Holy, Righteous, and Eternal God, You alone are truly and fully holy. I cannot comprehend the distant outskirts of your ways. But I love you. You are so far beyond me on my best days, I can't quite understand why you would pay such a cost to redeem someone like me. But, Dear God, I thank you.  In Jesus name. Amen.
Say Continually

Today's Scripture:
Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; And let them say continually, ‘Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.’
Psalm 35:27, NKJV.

Today's Word:
Notice in today’s verse, God’s people were commanded to go around saying continually, “Let God be magnified. He takes pleasure in prospering me.” I believe one reason they were supposed to say it all the time is so it would get down on the inside of their hearts.

See, when we hear something long enough, we start to believe it. It starts to affect the way we see things. I wonder what would happen if, all through the day, we decided to stop dwelling on negative, defeated thoughts like, “I’ll never get out of debt. My business will never expand. How can I send my children to college? It’s so expensive.” And, what if you started dwelling on thoughts like, “God takes pleasure in prospering me. Good breaks are in my future. Explosive blessings are coming my way?”

Today, let the truth of God’s Word sink down into your heart. All throughout the day, declare His goodness. Declare His faithfulness. Declare His blessings because He delights in seeing you prosper!

Prayer for Today:
Father, thank You for Your goodness. Thank You for finding joy in seeing me succeed. Help me to see my life the way you see it. Help me to see and declare the blessing and victory You have for me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Seek and Receive Grace

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
Isaiah 55:6
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
In truth, God is always close to those who genuinely seek after him. The real problem is that we drift away from him, lose interest, and leave his presence. So let's seek him and receive his grace and his help while we recognize that he alone is the one who truly saves.

MY PRAYER
Father, I seek you with all my heart. While I seek to know about you through your Word, I long to know you and be known by you as a tender father knows his child and as a child feels complete trust toward his tender father. Be not only my God, but be real to me in ways that transcend explanation. Help me sense your nearness and to know your presence. Through Jesus I pray. Amen.
Live with an Eternal Perspective

Today's Scripture:
…It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Acts 20:35, NIV.

Today's Word
So much of our culture is inward focused. People are conditioned to think, “What’s in it for me?” But the most rewarding way to live is not with the attitude, “How can I get blessed today?” No, if we are always self-focused wondering how we can benefit, that’s living with a shallow, temporary mentality. Instead of looking out only for your good, turn it around and say, “How can I be a blessing to others? Who can I inspire to rise higher? What seeds of greatness can I call forth out of someone?” Friend, that’s living at a higher level.
Today, I encourage you to be on the lookout for ways to be a blessing to other people. It’s amazing how one word of encouragement can change the direction of a person’s life forever. When you reach out and speak faith over others, when you speak vision and cause others to rise higher, something supernatural happens to your own life. It won’t be long before you see yourself excelling and rising up higher when you live with an eternal perspective!

Prayer for Today
Father, help me to live with an eternal perspective. Help me to stay focused on meeting the needs of others. Let me be Your hands and feet, let me be Your mouthpiece and bring You glory in everything I do in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Overcoming Fear of Man

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.
Proverbs 29:25
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
Fear is such a paralyzing emotion. It robs us vitality, decision-making ability, and strength. Courage helps us step out of fear's paralysis and turn its nervous edge into power. But this kind of courage comes to us fully only when we know that all that Satan and his allies can really have of us is our bodies. He cannot take our mind, our attitude, our faith, and most of all, he cannot take our relationship with God, given to us through Jesus.

MY PRAYER
O Savior, my Great Redeemer, thank you for triumphing over all that I fear through Jesus. You have not only given me a hero I trust, but a hope by which I can live victoriously. Through my Conquering King I thank you. Amen.
But God!
Today's Scripture:
O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! ...But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
Psalm 3:1-3, NIV.

Today's Word:
When David wrote this verse, He was in a very difficult situation. He was actually running for his life from his very own son who wanted to kill him and take over the throne. Can you imagine?! David was probably feeling overwhelmed, distraught, heartbroken, betrayed and abandoned. Have you ever felt that way? But notice that David didn’t just tell the Lord all about his problems. He told the Lord about his faith when he said, “But You, God, are a shield around me…” David made the choice to focus on God’s goodness no matter what.
We have to remember, circumstances may be tough, but God is working behind the scenes on your behalf. You may have a difficult relationship, but God is your Restorer today. You may have an overwhelming need, but God is your Provider today! The doctors may have told you that you have an incurable disease, but God is your Healer today! Things may look impossible today, BUT WITH GOD, all things are possible! If you’ll keep that constant attitude of faith and victory, you’ll see the hand of God move in your life, and you will experience the life of victory He has in store for you!

Prayer for Today:
Father, thank You for always being faithful and working in my life. Today I open my heart to You and choose to focus on You instead of my circumstances. I know that with You, all things are possible in Jesus name. Amen.

Other-Person Centered

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others.
Philippians 2:3-4
New International Version
THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
Do you remember one of the earliest questions in the Bible? "Where is your brother Abel?" To which Cain responded: "Am I my brother's keeper?" Paul's answer is a clear and undeniable yes! We must look to the interest of others and not just our own.
MY PRAYER
Father, teach me to love your family as you do. I get so caught up and distracted with my own world and my own problems that I forget to notice those who are hurting. Help me to grow more aware and more attune to those needs so you may minister through me. Through Jesus I pray. Amen.
CELEBRATE OTHERS
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“Rejoice with those who rejoice...”
(Romans 12:15, NKJV)
TODAY’S WORD
When a friend or family member succeeds, gets promoted, or experiences an unexpected break in life, how do you respond?
Some people wonder, “What about me?” Others criticize or say, “It won’t last long.” But really, the way you respond to other’s success will determine the level of your own success. Whether you respond in a negative or positive way, you are sowing seeds for your future. That’s why scripture tells us simply to “rejoice with those who rejoice.” God wants you to be successful. His commands are for your good. He doesn’t want jealousy or strife to enter your life or rob you of His blessing.
Today, make it a point to find someone who is celebrating and celebrate with them. Congratulate them on their success no matter how small it seems in the natural. Rejoice with those who rejoice, sow seeds of blessing, and open the door for victory in your own life in return!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for Your hand of blessing not only on my life but on the lives of the people around me. I choose to rejoice in You, and I choose to rejoice over Your victory everywhere I go in Jesus’ name! Amen!

Proper Training for Children

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
Proverbs 22:6
New International Version
THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
Children don't need to be taught, they need to be trained. Life is not about intellectual lessons, but about integrating truth into the fabric of our daily lives. God calls us to move our children and their training up on the list of our priorities.
MY PRAYER
Great and Holy Counselor, help me as I seek to know the best thing to do with my children to share my love and your truth with them. I want them to know and love you even better than I do. Give me wisdom and courage to make wise decisions and tenderness to implement them in my family's life. Through Jesus I pray. Amen.
Cast Your Cares And Live Worry-Free
Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.
1 Peter 5:7, AMP
When Jesus died on the cross, He unleashed all the blessings of God into our lives. And God’s blessings have been flowing from His throne to us ever since. These blessings cannot be stopped. The only way they can be stopped is when we worry. That’s why God specifically tells us to cast our cares on Him.
You see, when you worry about a particular area of your life, you constrict God’s supply into that area. Now, God is still supplying the blessing, but it is not coming through because your worrying is constricting the “supply pipe”! You may pray, “Oh God, why aren’t You supplying me in this area of my life?” God says, “I am supplying. If you will let go, you’ll let My supply flow into that area.”
What are you worried about today? Not having enough for your daily provision? A painful symptom in your body? A mistake you made? Beloved, see the Father’s heart and love for you as He invites you to simply cast all your cares on Him. His Word tells you that He cares for you “affectionately” and “watchfully”. This means that nothing escapes His notice when it comes to your needs. So rest knowing that He will give you His best, and let His abundant supply provide for every breakthrough you need!

"Purity" Are you kidding me???

Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out reverence for God.
2 Corinthians 7:1
New International Version
THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
In a world so full of distractions and temptations, purity is difficult. Even more than difficult, the call to purity often goes forgotten and ignored. Cheap grace is substituted for a call to passionate living. While we never want to give in to a "works righteousness," we also must remember that impurity through laziness, lack of commitment, or simple rebellion are contaminating to those claiming to be Christians and ruin our influence before the watching world.
MY PRAYER
Purify my heart, my life, my body, my influence, O God. May my words and my thoughts be blameless in your sight. I want to be holy as you are holy and honor you as only you are worthy of honor. You alone are God! Through Jesus I ask it. Amen.
Far Above Every Negative Thing
…He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
Ephesians 1:20–21
Isn’t it wonderful to know that God does not measure and judge you based on your performance today? Instead, He looks at Jesus, and as Jesus is, that is how He sees you. His Word declares that “as He is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17).
Notice that it does not say that “as Jesus was on earth, so are we in this world.” That would be amazing enough because during Jesus’ ministry on earth, healing, blessings and abundance followed Him everywhere He went. Yet, that is not what the Word says. What it says is, “as Jesus is” (present tense). In other words, as He is right now, so are we in this world!
So just consider where Jesus is today. Right now, He is seated at the Father’s right hand, “far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.” If I were you, I would take some time to meditate on this passage because as Jesus is, so are you right now, in this world. Meditate on how as Jesus is “far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named,” so are you! See yourself as Jesus is, far above every principality and power, far above every disease and physical condition, far above every kind of fear, depression and addiction, and begin to reign over every negative situation in your life today!
