True freedom comes from knowing truth

Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
--John 8:31-32
New International Version
THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
There are few things more coveted than freedom.  People die for it.  People pray for it.  People strive for it.  True freedom comes from knowing truth.  Knowing truth only comes by living in obedience to Jesus.  Truth is not something you merely think about or believe. Truth is something you do, you live.  Jesus' teaching always ends with the exclamation: Blessed are you who do these things!  Only by doing will we ever know the truth that liberates us.

MY PRAYER
To the only true God be glory, honor, power, and praise. Father, I seek not only your presence in my daily life, but also your pleasure in the choices I make.  Please teach me more of your truth as I pledge to live today in obedience to your word and your will.  Through Jesus the living Word I pray. Amen.

He Anoints You with Oil

Today's Scripture:
…You anoint my head with oil…
Psalm 23:5, NKJV.

Today's Word:
In the Bible, oil is symbolic of the anointing of God. Do you know what oil does? It makes things flow. Whenever there is friction or something gets stuck, putting oil on it makes it become more fluid. That’s what God wants to do for you. He wants to anoint your head with oil. When He does that, notice what David says in Psalm 23, “Because God anoints me, because I walk in His favor; surely, goodness and mercy will follow me everywhere I go.”

Friend, God’s anointing makes things easier. People will go out of their way to be good to you for no reason. You’re going to have creativity, wisdom and good ideas. God’s anointing on your life will cause the right doors to open. It will bring the right people across your path. It will make things go smoother. And the good news is, all you have to do is ask Him for it. Remember, He longs to be good to you. You can trust that His anointing will make things easier, and He will lead you into the abundant life He has in store for you!

Prayer for Today:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your favor in my life today. Thank You for causing me to be at the right place at the right time. Anoint my head with Your oil so that I can move forward in the path You have for me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

We all like "do-overs" or second chances

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
--2 Corinthians 5:17
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
We all like "do-overs" or second chances. God does much better than that! He allows us to become new again. Being the "God of new things" he can even make us new. Beyond forgiveness, beyond cleansing, he makes us holy through Jesus. Let's use the opportunity of a New Year as a springboard to living a life fresh and new and alive to God!

MY PRAYER
O LORD, thank you for a New Year and a fresh start. Please give me wisdom and strength to serve you with integrity and faithfulness in this coming year. I pray that your work be done in my life as I offer myself, my plans, and my future to you. I pray this through Jesus, my intercessor and Lord. Amen.
Enter His Rest

Today's Scripture:
For we who have believed do enter that rest…
Hebrews 4:3, NKJV.

Today's Word:
God promises that there are set times in our future, but He doesn’t tell us when they will be. Your set time may be tomorrow morning at 9:47. You’ll get the phone call you’ve been waiting for. Your set time may be two years from now. You’ll get a good break and that will thrust you to a new level. My question is, “Do you trust God enough to believe that your set times are coming?” Are you willing to wait with a good attitude? Are you willing to get a new perspective?

Remember, that set time is already in your future. Don’t let the negative thoughts talk you out of it. The way you know that you’re really believing is that you have rest on the inside. You’re at peace. You know the answer is on the way. You trust that God is working things out.

Today put your faith and trust in Him and enter into rest. Know that He is good and He is for you! Your set time of favor is on the way!

Prayer for Today:
Father, today I choose to enter into rest. I choose to trust You, I choose to put my faith and hope in You knowing that You are good and that You have good things in store for my future in Jesus’ name! Amen.

I am the gate

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep; whoever enters through me will be saved.  He will come in and go out and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it in full."
--John 10:7,9-10
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
Jesus came to the world to give us life.  He didn't come to bring us rules, or judgment, or fear, or work. Jesus came to give us life in its fullest form.  While we know that this is promised to us when we go to be with him for all eternity, John wants us to clearly hear that Jesus' promise to give us life begins right now! Not JUST life later, but also life NOW!

MY PRAYER
Almighty God, I confess that sometimes I play life too carefully, not risking failure and loss and not reaching for your opportunities and your concerns.  Give me a heart that yearns to live life in all its fullness by seeking after your will, Jesus' example, and the Holy Spirit's leading in my decisions today and always.  Through Jesus I ask this to your glory.  Amen.
Submission Releases God’s Favor

Then Jesse said to his son David, “Take now for your brothers an ephah of this dried grain and these ten loaves, and run to your brothers at the camp. And carry these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand…”
1 Samuel 17:17–18

You are probably familiar with the story of David and Goliath. But do you remember how this shepherd boy ended up on the battlefield to begin with?

David was there to deliver bread and cheese to his brothers who were in the army. And yet, David found himself standing on the battlefield as Israel’s representative against the haughty Goliath. From delivering bread and cheese, he was now called upon to deliver the entire nation of Israel.

David was at the right place at the right time because he humbled himself and submitted to his father’s instructions to deliver bread and cheese to his brothers.

Beloved, this is something you need to understand. Submission to God-appointed leadership will always cause God’s favor to flow in your life, and you will find yourself, like David, at the right place at the right time, empowered by God to do the right thing!

He has spoken to us by his Son

In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.
--Hebrews 1:1-2
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
God is a speaking God.  He loves us and has chosen to get his message to us in words.  First there were the patriarchs and great prophets.  Then there was the written record in the Scriptures.  But God's greatest message, his most powerful words, were not really words at all, but a person named Jesus of Nazareth, who is Christ and Lord of all.  For us, his Church, to be what he wants us to be, we must not just look at Scripture, we must also look at him.  He is the key to understanding what Scripture means and how it is to be lived.

MY PRAYER
Holy Father, help me to see Jesus and his work and purpose more clearly as I open your Book and seek to understand your will.  Fill me with your Spirit, so that I may greet each decision awakened to the answer to "What would Jesus do?" Through Jesus, my Lord and Savior I pray.  Amen.
Wisdom To Contain God’s Provision

Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”
2 Kings 4:6–7

When it comes to provision, God’s word is chockfull of wisdom and encouragement. It not only gives you pictures of God’s inexhaustible supply, but it also provides wisdom in managing what comes into your hands.

In the story found in 2 Kings 4:2–7, Elisha told a poor widow to get as many empty vessels as she could, and pour her last jar of oil into the vessels. She did as told and miraculously, the oil kept flowing. It stopped only when she ran out of vessels. Elisha then told her to sell the oil, pay her debt and live on the surplus.

I want you to see two important things here. Firstly, the supply stopped only when the demand on God’s supply stopped. I want to encourage you to never stop looking to Jesus for your supply.

Secondly, if you are in debt, your first priority is to settle your debt. Notice that Elisha told the widow, “Sell the oil and pay your debt.” And when you have cleared your debt, learn to live within your means. Beloved, the more you meditate on and heed the practical wisdom in God’s Word, the more you will be able to contain His provision.

Truth is seen in what it does!

Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.
John 3:20-21
New International Version

THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE
Truth is seen in what it does and whom it seeks.

MY PRAYER
Father of every heavenly light, I ask you to correct me gently as I place myself, my imperfections, failures and sins in your presence. Forgive and cleanse me by the blood of Jesus so that I might be spotless, holy, and blameless in your sights. O Lord, I don't want just to be forgiven, I want to be useful to you and your church. Please help me find my way to usefulness. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Personalize God’s Favor In Your Life

Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper…
John 21:20
In the Gospel of John, you will find John referring to himself as “the disciple whom Jesus loved” several times. Why did he do that? Did Jesus love him more than the rest?

My friend, John was simply practicing and personalizing the love that Jesus had for him. We are all God’s favorites, but John knew the secret of accessing Jesus’ unmerited favor for himself. It is your prerogative to see yourself as the disciple whom Jesus loves, and to call yourself that!

As you keep reminding yourself that you are the disciple whom Jesus loves, you will grow in the consciousness of the Lord’s love for you. And the more you are conscious of His love for you, the more you will find your fears dissipating. Why? Because His perfect love casts out all fear(1 John 4:18). And besides living fear-free, you will also begin to experience an increased measure of His free favors!
